  • Do I need a buoyancy aid/lifejacket?
Yes, everyone on the lake needs to wear a suitable buoyancy aid, without exception. If you are renting our equipment, a buoyancy aid will be provided – if you have your own which you are comfortable in, by all means bring it with you. If you are self launching but don't have a suitable buoyancy aid, you can rent one – please ask when you book in. If your dog is going on the water on your own equipment, they must wear a buoyancy aid. Here are examples of suitable adult, child and dog buoyancy aids:
  • Do I need a wetsuit?
Wetsuits are provided for Kayak, Paddleboarding and Cable-tow but are not mandatory. If you are swimming, again they are not mandatory; if you wish to rent one visit Nice1 Open Water Swimming beside QuaySwim reception.
  • Can children join in?
Yes, children under 8 can join you on the front of a paddle board, or in the front a 2 person kayak. Children up to 12 can ride alone, with an adult supervising on the water. Children over 12 must have an adult on site.
  • Are dogs welcome?
Dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead at all times. They are allowed on the water, but only on your own board/kayak. They must be in a buoyancy aid and tethered to the craft.
  • Are you open all year?
Paddleboarding, kayaking and cable-tow summer season runs through to the end of September. Open Water swimming is open all year round, including Boxing Day and New Years Day.
  • Do I need to book?
If you want to be sure of availability, use the booking system at https://quayswatersports.sports-booker.com/customer/ for paddleboarding, kayaking or cable-tow. To book for swimming, use https://quayswimid.custombooker.co.uk/Account/Login.
  • Are their changing rooms?
There are Ladies and Gents changing rooms. The changing rooms at the WaterSports end of the lake have showers.
  • Are there secure lockers?
There are a limited number of lockers available at the watersports reception, on a first come basis. Where possible please share lockers with your friends.
  • Are there refreshments available?
We sell hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams at our cafe, or you can dine at the Kingfisher On The Quays.
  • Can I windsurf at the lake?
Unfortunately we cannot accomodate windsurfers at present.
  • Can I use a jetski at the lake?
Unfortunately we are unable to have jetskis on the lake.
  • Will rain stop the session?
No – the only weather that will bring you off the water is an electrical storm, in which case the horn will sound three times to signal to make your way back to the launch area.
  • Where can I park?
If you are paddleboarding, kayaking or using the cable-tow you can drive down and park in the Kingfisher on The Quays car park, or park on the grass verges just before the QuaysWaterSports reception. If you are swimming, drive through the gate on your right and park in the gravelled car park, or on the grass verges either side of the road.
  • What forms of payment are accepted?
You can pay for rentals and refreshments with cash or card. We do not accept American Express.
